REFLECTIVE QUILTING FEBRUARY 10, 2023

FREE Friendship Star Block Pattern and an invitation to our Bluebird Friendship Block Party
February 24, 2023 at Bluebird Quilt Studio In Person in our Shop or On Zoom!

This block finishes at 9 inches (unfinished 9 ½”)   

CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Cut one 3 ½” square for the center square out of a fabric that represents YOU!

Cut four 3 ½” squares and two 4” white or off-white squares*.  Mark the 4” squares from one corner to the opposite corner diagonally with a pencil.  

Cut two 4” squares* that coordinate with your center square.   This fabric will form the star points.  (*Note these 4 “ squares are cut slightly larger than needed and will be later trimmed to achieve more precise piecing results.)PIECING INSTRUCTIONS:

To form the star point triangle units, place a 4” white square and a 4” coordinate square right sides together.  Using a scant ¼ inch seams, stitch on both sides of the marked center diagonal line on the back of  the white square,   Repeat for the second pair of white and coordinate squares.  Cut on the marked diagonal lines on both stitched units.  Press the seams towards the darker fabric to form two half square triangle units. Centering the block prior to trimming,  TRIM the half star block units carefully to  3 ½” using rotary cutting tools.  
Layout the cut pieces and half square triangle units in rows as shown in the block picture above.  Stitch the units/squares together to form three rows.  Press.  Stitch the three rows together.  Press.  The block should measure 9 ½” square at this stage.

Note:  If you wish to participate in the friendship star block exchange block party in our studio on February 24th at 4 p..m. at Bluebird Quilt Studio in Nampa, Idaho, construct as many blocks as you would like to exchange.  Please include a personal note with each block for exchange. Contact us if you would like to have an approximate number of participants the day prior to our gathering.  (Regardless, these will stitch up in lots of fun ways regardless of how many blocks you create!)   They will be sewwww fun to share!  We are looking forward to our friendship block party!

IN PERSON: BLUEBIRD FRIENDSHIP BLOCK PARTY AT BLUEBIRD QUILT STUDIO IN NAMPA IDAHO.  Friday February 24 at 4 p.m Share your story and your completed block(s)tin person in a quilter’s “show and tell”.  Join in the fun by making more friendship blocks if you choose to do so,  and exchange them with your new quilty friends in person at our block party.   Make as many as 9 inch finished friendship star blocks you wish to exchange at the February party, along with a personal note to accompany each block.  You are welcome, regardless of whether you wish to participate in the block exchange.   Bring a snack to share and join in the fun and the FRIENDSHIP of quilting at this FRIENDSHIP BLOCK PARTY. (Depending on interest we may continue to hold future in person block parties the fourth Friday of the month at 4 p.m.)

ONLINE ON ZOOM: FRIENDSHIP BLOCK PARTY WITH BLUEBIRD QUILTERS ON ZOOM  Friday February 24 at 2 p.m.  Can’t join us in person at Bluebird?  Join us online on zoom for a gathering of quilting friends.  Share your story and your friendship star block!  (Friday February 24 at 2 p.m. )  Be ready to share your story and “show and tell” your completed block online.  We will share some beginning quilting tips and the happenings of our community of quilters.  This is a gathering of quilting friends, there is no charge.  (Depending on interest, we will hold this block party gathering the fourth Friday of the month at 2 p.m. and use the same zoom link.)   At this time, we do not plan to have a friendship block exchange online, but will discuss this possibility at the zoom meeting this month.
